A simple illustration of a desktop computer displaying an exam on its screen. No more paper and pencils for those taking the Petroleum or Environmental disciplines of the Principles & Practice of Engineering exams. NCEES has converted those two PE exams to computer-based tests in 2019.

The Petroleum and Environmental exams join the Chemical and Nuclear exams, which made the jump to CBT in 2018.

The Petroleum exam will be offered only once a year because it has a smaller examinee population. It will be offered on Oct. 15 in 2019. The Environmental exam is being offered year-round.

Five more PE exams will become computer-based in 2020, as NCEES continues to migrate all PE exams to CBT by 2023. For more information on the transition to computer-based testing, visit the NCEES website.
