In addition to the main competitions, engineering students participated in a variety of events at the 2018 ASCE Southeast Student Conference.
A third national competition, the GeoWall Challenge, was held at the University of Florida’s Plaza of the Americas. Teams designed and built a model wrapped face segmental mechanically stabilized earth retaining wall using kraft paper. The walls were constructed using sand in a plywood box for testing their strength.
Other competitions included: Wilderness Water, in which teams purchase materials and construct liners to contain leachate within a plywood container; Dynamic Dam, in which teams create a dam to generate the most electricity using water power; Horseshoe Hoedown; Camp Cornhole; spirit T-shirt design; spirit team tug o’war; spirit team flag design; and spirit team photo scavenger hunt.
