The Florida Board of Professional Engineers elected Dylan Albergo, PE, as its chair for 2023, and Pankaj (P.J.) Shah, PE, as its vice chair. Mr. Albergo succeeds Scott Drury, PE, who served as chair in 2022.
As a part of WGI, Mr. Albergo specializes in bridge design and is responsible for providing project management, technical expertise, and delivering on complex infrastructure projects.
Appointed to the Board in 2018, Mr. Albergo is chair of the special inspector rules committee and serves on the application review and the FEMC operations committees.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Florida State University and a master’s in civil engineering (with a structural emphasis) from the University of Florida.
Dylan lives in Tampa with his wife and newborn daughter and is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Tampa. He sits on the boards of Walking With Warriors, supporting high-risk public servants, and the Faith Action Ministry Alliance, serving the local community.
Mr. Shah has over 50 years of experience in the civil engineering industry, including 30 years as president and owner of a top 25 engineering firm in the Tampa Bay area, Cumbey & Fair Inc. His areas of expertise are with design of site engineering for residential and commercial projects, including national restaurant chains. He has experience in irrigation drainage, water and wastewater designs, and projects for cities and Pinellas County. In addition to Florida, he is a licensed Professional Engineer in California.
He was appointed to FBPE in 2017 and serves on the application review committee.
Outside of his professional services, Mr. Shah is committed to the industry through his past membership and affiliations with American Water Works Association, Florida Engineering Society, Clearwater Chamber of Commerce, CEO Council of Tampa Bay, and former board chair of Adjustment & Appeals for the City of Clearwater.
Mr. Shah received his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from University of Baroda (Vadodara, India) and his Master of Science in engineering at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to being a passionate Sooners fan, he plays golf regularly, follows sports and politics, and is a proud “grandpa” fan of baseball travel league and lacrosse at Palm Harbor High School where his two grandchildren attend. Mr. Shah and his wife, Neki, live in Clearwater, and have three children and two grandchildren.
FEMC Chair, Vice Chair for 2023
At its December meeting, the directors of the Florida Engineers Management Corporation elected Satya Lory, PE, as chair for 2023 and Safiya Brea, PE, as vice chair. Ms. Lory succeeds Art Nordlinger, PE, who served as chair in 2022.
Ms. Lory is vice president and Florida client service leader at HNTB Corp. She received her bachelor’s in civil engineering from National Institute of Technology (Calicut, India), a master’s in civil engineering from the University of South Florida, and an MBA from the University of Tampa. Ms. Lory has been involved in a variety of major projects and programs, including being the design manager for the $2.3-billion I-4 Ultimate public-private partnership.
Ms. Lory is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), WTS International, and American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida’s (ACEC-FL) transportation committee, and has held several leadership positions in ASCE, which culminated in president of Florida Section. She is a graduate of Leadership Orlando class 95. Ms. Lory and her husband, Chris, are avid fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys, and enjoy going to football games.
She was appointed a corporate director for FEMC in 2018.
Ms. Brea graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s in civil engineering. She is a partner at Chen Moore and Associates where she has worked for over 20 years. Her current position as Broward lead and principal engineer includes leading the Fort Lauderdale office, designing and managing a wide variety of municipal projects.
She is a graduate of Leadership Florida Connect class 8, Leadership Broward class 35, and Florida Engineering Leadership Institute.
Ms. Brea was the Florida Engineering Society’s Broward Chapter president from 2010-12, and served on various committees for the organization. She participates in the Women of Tomorrow mentoring program for young women and is on the Gold Coast Council for Leadership Florida. Ms. Brea and her husband, Mark, have a daughter, Nyla, and a son, Malakhi. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and reading a good book.
She was appointed a corporate director for FEMC in 2018.
