One of FBPE’s Investigators conducted a site visit of the South Miami Hospital clinical expansion project with the cooperation of project manager from Arellano Construction Co., general contractor for this project.
The expansion will consist of a 96,000-square-foot addition that will provide for an expanded emergency department, and new surgery suite consisting of 20 operating rooms with support space. The project will also include 8,500 square feet of renovations to include the critical decision unit, pre-op, recovery areas, CT suite and central sterile processing department. The project will be completed in four phases in order to minimize interruptions to hospital operations and has a total duration of 48 months. Additional scope of work includes new hurricane-hardened building envelope to exceed building code requirements and extensive electro-mechanical infrastructure upgrades.
