ASCE Southeast Student Conference 2018The American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2018 Southeast Student Conference ran March 1-3, 2018, at the University of Florida in Gainesville. More than 1,000 students from 26 universities around the Southeast, including Puerto Rico, attended.

Students participated in three major competitions — Steel Bridge, Concrete Canoe, and GeoWall — and a dozen smaller competitions.

FBPE was at the conference, with Executive Director Zana Raybon and Assistant Executive Director Rebecca Sammons serving as judges for the steel bridge displays and volunteering at during the construction competition.

Steel Bridge Display

During the opening afternoon of the 2018 ASCE Southeast Student Conference, teams of engineering students set up their steel bridges around Gainesville’s Depot Park on Thursday, March 1.

After displaying their steel bridges on the opening day of the 2018 ASCE Southeast Student Conference, the teams of engineering students faced the challenge of the Steel Bridge Competition on Friday, March 2.

Concrete Canoe Display

On Friday, March 2, at the 2018 ASCE Southeast Student Conference, teams of engineering students set up their concrete canoe displays on the Stadium North Lawn at the University of Florida.

Concrete Canoe Races

After a day-and-a-half on the main campus of the University of Florida, the 2018 ASCE Southeast Student Conference activities moved to the university’s Lake Wauburg on Saturday, March 3.
